New Award Winning Hospital Building for Mercy Medical Center in Merced, CA Opened April 2010.

The 270,000 sq. ft. replacement hospital addition to the Mercy Medical Center campus in Merced, CA celebrated its grand opening on April 21 st 2010. The hospital built by RBB Architects Inc. and commissioned by Catholic Healthcare West is the winner of the American Institute of Architects Design Award. RBB Inc.'s “lean design philosophy” limits waste, makes efficient use of space and improves energy efficiency. The new facility adds 210 beds as well as a new 10-bed ICU, more than doubling the current patient capacity at Mercy Medical Center. In addition, the new facilities will provide trauma care and prospective invasive cardiovascular surgery and neurosurgery capabilities.
Dr. Gary W. Tamkin, Medical Director at the Mercy Merced Hospital, expressed his excitement and optimism saying, “While we are all exhausted and frustrated with technology that still has many bugs, and the operational challenges we have faced since day one— the mood is upbeat and we are all very excited”.
Valley Emergency Physicians began providing Emergency Department staffing and comprehensive medical management services to Mercy Medical Center Merced in 2004.
