VEPMG announces creation of three new hospitalist programs
Mar 15th, 06
As part of its continuing commitment to the hospitalist movement, Valley Emergency Physicians Medical Group (VEPMG) announced the establishment of three new hospitalist programs this month. The three new programs are Shasta Regional Medical Center (Redding, CA), Woodland Memorial Hospital (Woodland, CA) and Banner Lassen Medical Center (Susanville, CA).
A hospitalist is a member of a medical specialty who has chosen a field of medicine that specifically focuses on the care of the hospitalized patient. Originally coined in 1996, the term is used for this rapidly growing field of medicine.
"I am very excited to see three more hospitals contract for our hospitalist services," said Steve Maron, MD, VEPMG's President. "It shows that there is a great demand for these services in general, and, I believe, in our approach to delivering them."
VEPMG is a California Professional Corporation, formed in 1981, and provides health care throughout Northern and Central California. VEPMG is owned and operated by practicing physicians and allied health providers and delivers emergency-medicine and primary-care physician services to 24 hospitals and 7 clinics in California. Recognizing the opportunity to improve the flow of inpatient care, VEPMG began providing hospitalist services in 1998. With this month's implementation of 3 new programs they bring the success of this division to 7 programs.
As part of VEPMG's efforts to expand their hospitalist services, it has hired a specialist to concentrate solely on them. Laura Holland was brought on in January 2006 to help fulfill this part of the company's vision.
"Our goal is to design a hospitalist program around the unique demands of the hospital, the patients and the community physician providing all patients with equal quality care," said Holland. "Modern Healthcare has become so complex, so overwhelming for some people, that a hospitalist program is not just a good thing, it's an inevitability. That is why we have made it a priority to serve hospitals, patients and doctors with this service."
Maron is very pleased at the success of the hospitalist movement, "We're looking at a group of people who have very determinedly, and fairly rapidly, been successfully in creating their own specialty. Recruitment can be a challenge, but I have been very pleased to see the great success that VEPMG has had, and I expect, will continue to have. Given the importance that we place on this program, it is very rewarding to see people coming to work for us that are equally committed to it."
